SPECT‑CT
SPECT-CT at Clínica Vila Parc: Precision, Safety and Comfort Close to You
What is SPECT‑CT?
SPECT-CT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography + Computed Tomography) combines the functional information provided by a SPECT gamma camera with the anatomical image of a conventional CT scan. The result is a hybrid scan that provides a level of detail, anatomical localisation and diagnostic definition far superior to traditional scintigraphy.
Thanks to this combination, specialists can obtain highly accurate 3D images, with a fusion of function and structure, which significantly improves sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis.
What is SPECT-CT used for?
The flexibility of SPECT-CT makes it useful in multiple specialties, both in adults and children: oncology, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, nephrology, orthopaedics, and more. It allows:
- Detect cancerous diseases, locate tumours and metastases.
- Evaluate heart disease (myocardial perfusion, viability, ischaemia).
- Diagnose bone, joint or metabolic disorders.
- Study neurological or central nervous system diseases.
- Perform renal, thyroid, endocrine or infection/inflammation studies when indicated.
Advantages of SPECT-CT at our clinic
More accurate diagnosis: the fusion of functional and anatomical images reduces false positives/negatives and improves lesion location.
Comfort and safety: the test is performed on an outpatient basis, with minimal invasiveness —usually just an injection of radiopharmaceutical— and without the need for hospitalisation.
Wide diagnostic coverage: from common diseases to complex pathologies, with the possibility of evaluating functionality, structure and evolution.
Exclusive in Ibiza and Formentera: patients do not need to travel off the island to access high-level technology.
How the SPECT-CT scan is performed
The patient receives an injection of the radiopharmaceutical indicated for the type of study.
After a waiting period necessary for the radiopharmaceutical to distribute correctly, the scan is performed using SPECT-CT equipment.
The test is outpatient, minimally invasive and performed with all safety and comfort measures in place.
Nuclear medicine specialists analyse the images and prepare a detailed report that your doctor will use to plan your treatment or follow-up.
